Hormuz Strait

This Medium Level 1 Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS) image was acquired on 8 June 2005 over the Strait of Hormuz (center image), a narrow waterway linking the Persian Gulf in the west with the Gulf of Oman (left image) and the Arabian Sea on the east. Separating the Arabian peninsula from Iran, the strait of Hormuz is considered a zone of economic and strategic importance for the shipment of petroleum.
