This Medium Level 1 Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS) was acquired on 25 May 2005 over the state of Gujarat (center image). Gujarat is located in western India, and lies in the middle of the Gulf of Kachchh (north-west) and the Gulf of Khambhat (south-east).

It is bordered on the northeast by Rajasthan, on the southeast by Maharashtra, on the south and southwest by the Arabian Sea, and on the northwest by Pakistan. Gujarat, characterized by a varied topography, has a vast fertile plain.

The color of the sea in the Gulf of Kachchh depends on the relatively stagnant state of the runoff, whereas the bright color of the Gulf of Khambat indicates a more active outflow.
