Germany Country Mosaic
January 19, 2006
This MERIS (MEdium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer) image centers over Germany. Germany has about 83 million people and is the major industrialized country of Europe. On the image (center-west of the country), one can see the very industrialized area around the Rhine Valley. Most inhabitants are believed to maintain a high life standard and benefit from a well functioning social system. The landscape offers a great variety from coastline to mountains, including hills, forests and plains. The north-western coast faces the North Sea, while the north-eastern coast faces the Baltic sea, only separated by a thin strip of land (about 50km); to the north, the border with Denmark. Its other neighbors are (clockwise): Poland, Czeck Republic, Austria, Switzerland, France, Luxembourg, Belgium and The Netherlands.
