Czech Republic Country Mosaic

This MERIS (MEdium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer) Image centers over the Czech Republic. The country as it is now was created in 1993 following the ousting of the Communist government in 1989. Czechoslovakia was replaced by two independent states, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. The capital city, Prague is situated west of center in the image, with a population of nearly 1,200,000 people it is also the country's largest city. The river passing through the capital is the Vltava, it rises in the Bohemian Forest before flowing to its confluence with the Elbe, and its course at 435 km makes it the longest in the country.
