Caspian Sea, Asia

January 20, 2006
This MEdium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS) image was acquired over the Caspian Sea, which is a landlocked sea in Asia. It is bordered by Russia (Dagestan, Kalmykia, Astrakhan Oblast), Azerbaijan, Iran (Guilan, Mazandaran and Golestan provinces), Turkmenistan, and Kazakhstan, with the central Asian steppes to the north and east. The greenish color in the sea is due to increased sedimentation.
