This ASAR (Advanced Synthetic Aperture Radar) image shows Cape Town, the legislative capital of South Africa, the capital of Western Cape province and home to nearly 3 million people. It is situated at the northern end of the Cape Peninsula, about 50 km north of the tip, The Cape of Good Hope. To the south of the city is Table Mountain (1086 m), so called because of its distinctive flat top. To the north in Table Bay is Robben Island, the prison island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned.
