This Medium Level 1 Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS) was acquired on 28 June 2005, over the Kakadu National Park in Australia, where a vast area of fires can be seen in the image, where they extend along the coast and in the Melville Island.

Situated in the Northern Territory, the Kakadu National Park is located east of Darwin city, on the western side of the Arnhem Land Aboriginal Reserve. Kakadu National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and one of the world's most precious and important sites for its archaeological, ethnological and ecological value.
