Dust Storm in Egypt and Libya
This image, acquired by the MODIS on the Aqua satellite, shows northern Africa on October 17, 2006. A large sandstorm is visible on the border of Libya (left) and Egypt (right). The black line is the border between countries. The dust from the storm is being blown out to sea in a large plume!
On the right side of the image, you can see the Nile River Delta, a triangle of green, which stands out from the sandy desert surrounding it. There are several fires, in the region, likely agricultural in nature, each represented by a red dot. Some smoke is visible over the Delta region as well.
