Snow Across the Upper Midwest
The MODIS on the Aqua satellite caught this image of a winter storm on Friday, November 30th, 2007. The storm, which continued into the weekend, hammered the midwest United States, dumping snow, ice, and freezing rain. The states most heavily affected seem to have been Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, and Iowa.
The storm caused problems at airports in Des Moines and Milwaukee; hundreds of flights at O'Hare in Chicago were delayed or canceled. The storm also caused power outages from downed limbs. Nearly 140,000 lost power in Illinois and over 14,000 in Iowa. In addition, bad conditions on the roads caused accidents. According to kansascity.com, at least 10 deaths were attributed to the storm - three in Wisconsin, three in Michigan, and one each in Indiana, North Dakota, Illinois, and Colorado.
