The MODIS on the Terra satellite captured this large dust storm over Iran (left), Afghanistan (top right), and Pakistan (bottom right) on July 21, 2007.
The various shades of brown reflect a varied landscape containing expanses of flat open desert, dry lake beds, dune fields, and mountain ranges. Black lines denote the country borders. One of the mountain ranges runs north to south along the Iranian border.
