Southeastern United States

November 13, 2008
The southeastern United States is featured in this image, captured by the MODIS on the Aqua satellite on November 3, 2008. Late fall colors tint the leaves and ground cover. Though clouds cover part of Florida and Georgia, in the east, the southern end of the Appalachian Mountain range is visible extending diagonally downward from the image's top right corner.

Near the center of the image is Louisiana and the Mississippi River delta. The paths of the Mississippi River (which runs approximately north-south) and the Red River (which extends outwards to the west) are easily visible in this image.
