Kepler Focal Plane Assembly

The focal plane assembly consists of the CCD array, local detector electronics (LDE), spider mount and radiator. The LDE has over 20,000 electronic components on 10 printed circuit boards. The electronics operate at +30C (warmer than room temperature) while the CCDs, which are only a few centimeters away from the electronics, are cooled to -95C.
