Numerous large fires were burning across the grasslands and savannas of Queensland's Cape York Peninsula on August 15, 2009, when the MODIS on the Aqua satellite captured this image. Places where the sensor detected actively burning fire are outlined in red. There were reports of a grass fire near the Mission River, which is on the western side of the peninsula.
