A scientist aligns the optics of the Atom Trap Trace Analysis technology, or ATTA for short. This new ultrasonic trace analysis technique is able to detect single atoms in a large sample, and was developed by researchers at Argonne National Laboratory. ATTA holds promise for advancing the state-of-the-art in many fields, from groundwater studies to environmental monitoring.
