Research assistant Daphne Groot and microbiologist Dr. Patricia Hartzell, are researching the use of thermophilic, anaerobic and sulfur-reducing Archaeon (Archaebacterium) Archaeoglobus fulgidus in converting industrial and agricultural waste materials into methane. Hartzell and Groot are participants in the Idaho EPSCoR (Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research) program.

EPSCoR, a joint program between NSF and several U.S. states and territories, promotes the development of state science and technology resources through partnerships involving state universities, industry and government, as well as the federal research and development enterprise.
