Robert Weaver, a Ph.D. student at the University of Southern California's Integrated Media Systems Center (IMSC), works in the Paul G. Allen Wireless Test Facility at IMSC, which houses a radio frequency anechoic chamber and control room. The chamber is used in IMSC research on ultra-wideband (UWB) technology, a new wireless technology that uses pulses of radio energy rather than radio waves to transmit information in digital form. UWB technology offers a broad range of possible applications from home networking to advanced radar systems. The center has pioneered academic research into UWB since it's inception in 1996. IMSC is a National Science Foundation-supported Engineering Research Center. (Year of image: 2002)
