Network Infomechanical Systems -- Washington State (Image 3)

June 10, 2010
Network Infomechanical Systems -- Washington State (Image 3) Looking up from the base of one of the cranes used to deploy robotic sensor nodes on a suspended cableway 150 feet above the forest floor at the Wind River Canopy Crane Research Facility, Washington State. The sensor node is part of UCLA's Network Infomechanical Systems (NIMS) project of the Center for Embedded Networked Sensing (CENS). NIMS node systems acquire precise microclimate data, as well as extensive images, providing both autonomous investigation capability and realtime remote access to the forest, from the surface to the canopy tops.
