Eerie Fog on Runway (Image 1) Aircraft heaters create an eerie fog as a U.S. Air Force Base C-17A Globemaster jet out of McChord AFB, Washington, is parked during sunrise at Pegasus Runway, McMurdo Station, Ross Island, Antarctica. McMurdo is one of three U.S. research stations on Antarctica. The National Science Foundation operates them all. [See Related Image.] (Date of Image: August 2005)
