Sink Hole at Pipe Creek

June 14, 2010
Sink Hole at Pipe Creek Screen-washing sediments from the Pipe Creek Sinkhole, a 5 million-year-old deposit from Grant County, Indiana. The sinkhole deposits preserve a diverse paleocommunity of plants and animals. Screen-washing concentrates smaller fossils, which are later collected by picking and sorting through the sediment concentrate. The National Science Foundation has been supporting field and laboratory studies of the Pipe Creek Sinkhole Assemblage carried out by Indiana-Purdue University Fort Wayne and the Indiana State Museum. This research is supported by National Science Foundation grant EAR 02-07182. (Date of Image: August 2005)
