Math and Science Partnerships, Puerto Rico A science workshop for elementary school teachers during a Puerto Rico Math and Science Partnership (PR-MSP) professional development program. The goal of the PR-MSP educational research project is for all teachers participating in the program, to implement evidence-based, challenging math and science curricula and participate in professional development and research-based effective strategies for delivering quality standards-based curriculum that engages students in scientific inquiry in out-of-classroom context and settings. The Puerto Rico Math and Science Partnership (PR-MSP) involves four universities within the Puerto Rico System (The University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras, Mayaguez, Cayey and Humacao campuses), in partnership with the Puerto Rico Department of Education, and supporting institutions that include the other seven campuses of the UPR system, the Inter American University of Puerto Rico System, and the Arecibo Observatory as well as informal science education centers and industry partners. PR-MSP is supported by the National Science Foundation Math and Science Partnership program under grant 03-14557. To learn more about the PR-MSP program, visit the PR-MSP Web site.
