Hybrid Nanorod

June 28, 2010
Hybrid Nanorod Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) image of ring-like superstructure formed by polystyrene-coated metallic nanorods. This finding--discovered by principal investigator Eugene Zubarev, the Norman Hackerman-Welch Young Investigator and assistant professor of chemistry at Rice University--could potentially lead to the development of novel nanodevices like highly sensitive optical sensors, superlenses, and even invisible objects for use in the military. To learn more, see the Rice University news release "Finding by Rice University Chemists Could Aid Development of New Nanodevices" (3/9/07). [This research was supported by National Science Foundation grant DMR 05-47399.] (Date of Image: August 2006)
