ARC LTER (Image 1) Graduate students Heidi Rantala and Stephanie Parker of the University of Alabama collect benthic samples from the Upper Kuparuk Spring, part of the Arctic Long Term Ecological Research (ARC LTER) site at Toolik Lake. The ARC LTER site is part of a network of sites established by the National Science Foundation to support long-term ecological research in the United States. The ARC LTER research site is located in the foothills region of the North Slope of Alaska and is based out of the University of Alaska's Toolik Field Station, with the principal year-round institute based at The Ecosystems Center, Marine Biological Laboratory, Woods Hole, Mass.
