March 21, 2004
These eight islands (of which San Miguel, Santa Rosa, Santa Cruz, Santa Nicolas, Santa Catalina, and San Clemente islands are visible) and the waters surrounding them are home to large numbers of sea mammals, including sea-elephant and sea-lion herds and the California gray whale. Five of the islands make up the Channel Islands National Park. For more information on these islands, please visit Encyclopedia.com. This true-color Terra MODIS image was acquired on March 16, 2004.
