Genomics and Population Modeling (Image 1)

July 7, 2010
Genomics and Population Modeling (Image 1) Researcher Forest Rohwer collects a sample, 714 meters below ground at the Soudan Mine in Minnesota. Samples were collected as part of a biocomplexity project that studied the composition and diversity of bacteriophage communities in solar salterns by high throughput DNA sequencing. Bacteriophage are viruses of bacteria and recent evidence is that they are hugely abundant and diverse in nature.[Note: mine sampling was supported by the National Science Foundation Biocomplexity Program under grant DEB-BE 04-21955.] (Date of Image: March 2005) [See Related Image.]
