Lenticular Cloud at Sunset
July 14, 2010
A stacked lenticular cloud is seen at sunset in the fall in Nederland, Colo. Jetstream winds blowing across the Rockies produce these wave-like clouds on the downwind-side of the Front Range.
Research on clouds, weather and other atmospheric research is performed at the National Center for Atmosphere Research (NCAR), a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and other federal agencies to provide facilities and support for a wide range of studies in the atmospheric and related sciences. NCAR is managed by the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR), a nonprofit consortium of universities that grants Ph.D.s in fields related to atmospheric science. UCAR's primary function is managing NCAR. To learn more, visit the NCAR Web site, Here.
