Jellyfish Wake

January 19, 2011
Jellyfish Wake Dye is used to outline the wake of a moon jellyfish (Aurelia victoria) swimming in a marine lake on the island of Mjlet, Croatia. Scientists use dye to study the swimming motion of jellyfish and what effects the animal may have on the water around them. To learn more about the basics of jellyfish biology, what scientists have learned thus far about the worldwide increase in jellyfish populations, and the causes of jellyfish swarms and how they affect both human and marine life, see the NSF Special Report, "Jellyfish Gone Wild!"
