This Electronic Still Camera (ESC) image shows Dafydd R. (Dave) Williams, mission specialist representing the Canadian Space Agency (CSA), in the Neurolab of the Earth-orbiting Space Shuttle Columbia. Williams, and astronaut Richard M. Linnehan, mission specialist (out of frame), are participating as operator and subject of many experiments and studies to understand how microgravity affects the human vestibular, or balance system. Astronauts returning from spaceflight often experience dizziness and imbalance. These studies and experiments test the inner ear function, and eye movements.
