Ground photo of Mt. Cotopaxi in Equador, the highest active volcano in the world. It is located at 78 degrees, 24 minutes west longitude and 0 degrees, 28 minutes south latitude. Mt. Cotopaxi, only one of the dangerous volcanoes in this area of the Andes, has erupted 50 times since 1738. With its height of 5897 meters it is more than 3000 meters higher than the surroundings. The base of this volcano has a width about 23 kilometers. Photo was taken by Marc Heilemann.
