High resolution image of an area of the Andes Mountains in Ecuador, home to the highest active volcano in the world. Coordinates of this area are 78 degrees, 24 minutes west longitude and 0 degrees 28 minutes south latitude. More than 50 eruptions of Mt. Cotopaxi alone have occurred since 1738. With its height of 5897 meters Mt. Cotopaxi is more than 3000 meters higher than the surroundings. The base of the volcano has a width about 23 kilometers.
