Astronaut Janet L. Kavandi, mission specialist, appears joyous over the success of the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) and other experiments on the flight deck of the Space Shuttle Endeavour. The Red Team member is standing beneath an electronic still camera (ESC) mounted in Endeavour's overhead windows. The camera stayed busy throughout the ll-day mission taking vertical imagery of Earth points of opportunity for the EarthKAM project. Students across the United States and in France, Germany and Japan took photos throughout the STS-99 mission. And they are using these new photos, plus all the images already available in the EarthKAM system, to enhance their classroom learning in Earth and space science, social studies, geography, mathematics and more.
