The fifth of twelve hurricanes in the Atlantic season, Hurricane Jeanne bears down on the Bahamas in this true-color Terra MODIS image from September 24, 2004. The National Hurricane Center predicted that the storm would pass over the northern Bahaman islands early on Saturday, September 25, then move on toward an oft-battered Florida on September 26th. While only a Category 2 Hurricane at the time this image was acquired, Jeanne was still packing 87 knot (100 mph) sustained winds. According to the National Hurricane Center's Atlantic hurricane ranking system, Jeanne will likely do moderate-level damage to plants, signs, roofing materials, piers, and marinas.
