NGC55 in Sculptor

NGC55, an irregular barred spiral (type SBm) in the constellation Sculptor, is seen nearly edge-on in this pohotgraph. One of the closer galaxies outside our Local Group, at about 7.5 million light-years, it is part of the Sculptor Cluster of galaxies. CTIO 4-meter Blanco telescope, 1975.
