Coastal Science and Management

May 1, 2012
This graphic shows how, over thousands of years, deltas compact and sea-levels rise, covering delta wetlands. An award to David Mohrig of the University of Texas at Austin focusing on coastal science and management is among the first made by NSF's Frontiers in Earth-System Dynamics (FESD) program, a new program to explore the connections among Earth's systems. For the study, geoscientists will develop and test high-resolution, quantitative models to predict river delta dynamics, from shorter-term engineering to longer-term geologic time-scales. The study will also address Earth system dynamics, resiliency and sustainability. Credit: Zina Deretsky, National Science Foundation
