18th Century Foundation at William & Mary
May 1, 2012
This previously unknown set of foundations dates to the Colonial Period of the College of William & Mary. The type of mortar used between the bricks and other clues leads scientists to believe that the building dates to the second quarter of the 18th century and was almost certainly used as a home for enslaved members of the college's staff or as a workplace staffed by them, such as a kitchen or laundry.
