Pegasus and NuSTAR Readied for Flight

July 3, 2012
Inside Orbital Sciences' processing facility at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, preparation of Orbital’s Pegasus XL rocket slated to launch NASA's NuSTAR spacecraft is nearly complete. The spacecraft is enclosed in the Pegasus payload fairing on the forward end of the rocket. The fairing will protect the spacecraft from the heat and aerodynamic pressure generated during the rocket’s ascent to space. Image credit: NASA/Randy Beaudoin, VAFB
