A National Science Foundation (NSF) report (NSF 12-317) released in May 2012, details substantial growth in graduate enrollment in science and engineering (S&E) in the past decade, with slowing growth found in recent years. Approximately 632,700 graduate students were enrolled in science, engineering and health programs in the U.S. as of fall 2010. This was a 30 percent increase from 493,000 students in 2000, according to NSF's Survey of Graduate Students and Postdoctorates in S&E.
