JSC2007-E-24177 (11 May 2007) --- Aquanaut Dr. Timothy J. Broderick of the University of Cincinnati collects core samples during a session of extravehicular activity (EVA) for the 12th NASA Extreme Environment Mission Operations (NEEMO) mission. This activity is designed to demonstrate current capabilities for remote geologic sample survey, collection and manipulation as well as science planning, communications, and data gathering in an extreme environment. The NEEMO 12 crew is spending 12 days, May 7-18, on an undersea mission aboard the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Aquarius Underwater Laboratory, which is operated by the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and located off the coast of Key Largo, Florida.
