JSC2007-E-22749 (8 May 2007) --- Astronaut/aquanaut Heidemarie M. Stefanyshyn-Piper participates in a session of extravehicular activity (EVA) for the 12th NASA Extreme Environment Mission Operations (NEEMO) mission. This image features surveying and "lunar" science objectives, using a handheld sonic acoustic mapping instrument. The NEEMO 12 crew is spending 12 days, May 7-18, on an undersea mission aboard the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Aquarius Underwater Laboratory, which is operated by the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and located off the coast of Key Largo, Florida.
