Whale sharks were frequent visitors during the International Ocean Drilling Program's (IODP) Expedition 320, the Pacific Equatorial Age Transect expedition. The expedition was conducted using the IODP drillship Joides Resolution. IODP is supported by the National Science Foundation (grant OCE 03-52500).
