Pluto and its moon Charon
Pluto and its moon Charon are shown in this sequence of four near-infrared images (K-band, 2.2 microns), obtained on different nights during June 1999 at Gemini North, utilizing the University of Hawaii's infrared camera QUIRC and the adaptive optics (A0) system, Hokupa'a. The maximum separation between the two objects is 0.9 arc seconds, and the measured FWHM of unresolved images in these frames is 0.08 arc seconds.
