Shuttle Discovery's Ride Into History

November 14, 2012
NASA's 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft (SCA) with space shuttle Discovery mounted on top flies over the Virginia countryside on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 after a low-level flyover of metropolitan Washington, D.C. The fly-over, coordinated with the Federal Aviation Administration, occurred near the conclusion of a ferry flight from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida to the Dulles International Airport to deliver the shuttle to the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum’s Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Va., adjacent to Dulles, where is it now part of the museum's permanent exhibit.
