Fuelling of XMM

January 23, 2013
The XMM spacecraft is fuelled with some 530 kg of hydrazine through the flex hoses that are connected to the propellant and pressurant loading equipment (PPLE). The PPLE consists of a large tank filled with hydrazine standing on a precise scale, valves and vacuum pump system to ensure that the fuel can enter all pipes of the spacecraft. There is an explosion proof electronic box to actuate the spacecraft valves and to read the pressure and temperature transducers. Copyright: ESA
