Fires in Southern United States

February 7, 2013
This true-color Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) from the Terra satellite was captured on November 23, 2002. Across the southern U.S., fires were detected by MODIS and are marked with red dots. In many states, fall is a good time for prescribed burning, but some of these detections are wildfires, for example, several of the ones in Oklahoma, at upper left.
