NASA SMD Chief John Grunsfeld Visits SOFIA Flying Observatory

John Grunsfeld, associate administrator of NASA's Science Mission Directorate and former space shuttle astronaut, adds his autograph to those of Apollo astronaut Fred Haise and Star Trek actress Nichelle Nichols on a bulkhead behind the flight deck of NASA's Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA). Grunsfeld was briefed on the SOFIA's role in astrophysics research and on Earth science missions flown by other specialized aircraft during a recent tour of the Dryden Aircraft Operations Facility in Palmdale.
