These true-color images from the MODIS instrument on NASA’s Aqua spacecraft show Tropical Cyclone Cilla located approximately 333 miles east of Suva, Fiji, on January 27, and south of Samoa on Jan. 28. Maximum sustained winds on the 27th were near 40 mph and Cilla was expected to slowly transition to an extratropical system as it moved to the south.
