Fires in the Congo
February 19, 2013
Patchy clouds are scattered across west-central Africa in this image from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Aqua satellite on Feb. 15, 2003. Through the clouds, MODIS detected scattered fires (red dots) in (counterclockwise from top left) Gabon, Congo, Cabinda, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Angola. The Congo River and its tributaries can be seen in the top center of the image.
