Simulation of Oil Flow Through Water

March 20, 2013
This is an immersive simulation--in 3-D made, from 2-D--of oil flow through water, based on computational fluid dynamics simulations. The "ribbons" show oil particles; color and thickness indicate movement. This simulation, created as part of research following the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, was created at the Scientific Visualization Laboratory at the Louisiana State University Center for Computation and Technology (CCT). To learn more about this research, see the TeraGrid Science Highlights 2010 story, "Oil, Oil Everywhere," on page 18 Here.
