Dust Storms off Pakistan

April 3, 2013
A pale haze of dust lingers over the Gulf of Oman in this Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image, acquired by NASA’s Aqua satellite on December 23, 2003. The dust blew out of western Pakistan and eastern Iran, where a few plumes of dust continue to be drawn over the water. Large dust storms are common in this region, and a particularly large storm covered the region in the weeks before this image was taken. Credit: Jeff Schmaltz, MODIS Rapid Response Team, NASA/GSFC
