Dust Storm in the Great Indian Desert

April 5, 2013
On May 20, 2004, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite captured this image of dust blowing across the Great Indian Desert (Thar Desert) in northwestern India. In the upper right corner, a handful of fires, marked in red, burn at the foot of the snow-topped Himalaya Mountains. Pakistan forms the upper left corner of the image.
