Martian Stairways

April 19, 2013
This Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) Mars Orbiter Camera (MOC) image shows dust-mantled, layered remnants of sedimentary rock exposed by erosion on the floor of an unnamed crater located northeast of Crommelin Crater in Arabia Terra. Many of the low-lying areas separating the exposures are occupied by large, windblown ripples and, in some areas, by dark-toned, windblown sand. MGS MOC Release No. MOC2-1503, 24 June 2006
